Working Wonders delivers community-based Skills for Life on behalf of Wigan's Adult & Community Learning. We operate in community centres and locations throughout the borough of Wigan & Leigh. In October 2005 ACL, including Working Wonders, was inspected by the Adult Learning Inspectorate. This was our first inspection and we achieved a Grade 2 - a wonderful result that reflects the quality of the service we offer. An outstanding Grade 1 was awarded for our work with disadvantaged groups and communities.
The excellent results of the inspection led to a conference aimed at Disseminating Good Practice to other ACLs and interested parties. It was held at the Waterside Conference Centre in February 2006

Our mission is to widen participation in education and improve achievement levels of individuals and communities by providing high quality, flexible and accessible basic skills development opportunities to support learners in achieving their own goals, whether these are to: - progress confidently into and through education and training
- gain and/or maintain employability
- enhance the capacity to cope to their satisfaction in everyday life
Our objectives are: - ensure that every learner is treated as an individual and is fully supported to improve their skills for life needs
- ensure that tutors are trained and have access to continuing professional development opportunities and in-house training
- provide a flexible service to our learners and to provide relevant resources to help them achieve their goals
- provide a welcoming, comfortable environment for our learners to work in
