About Working Wonders

Working Wonders is funded through a variety of public and charitable sources. Working Wonders was started as a small scale pilot scheme in January 2003.

    • The aim of the scheme is to provide:
      • Adults (19+) living in the Wigan & Leigh borough, the opportunity to improve the essential life skills of literacy, numeracy, first steps IT and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
    • A choice of free sessions in community venues at times and places to best suit the individual
    • Free crèche facilities, if required
    • A clear management and teaching focus that places the individual learner firmly at the centre
    • The opportunity for learners to gain nationally recognised qualifications in literacy and numeracy
    • Unbiased advice and guidance on various, possible progression routes

Since 2003, Working Wonders has helped hundreds of adults to gain confidence and skills; move on in employment; gain employment and/or gain nationally recognised qualifications.

Working Wonders now consists of a team of 17 highly qualified and experienced adult literacy, numeracy, IT and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) tutors and Support Workers.
