Thanks to funding from the Safer, Stronger Communities Fund, Working Wonders started working in Skelmersdale in June 2007.

We now have two offices in Skelmersdale: one at Digmoor Community Centre and one at Tanhouse Estate Management Board offices.

At Digmoor Community Centre, we are currently running Literacy and Numeracy sessions,  First Steps IT,  English for Speakers of Other Languages, 1:1 Reading Programmes, 1:1 support for Numeracy and a Story Sacks course for parents.

In the Tanhouse area, we are currently running Literacy and Numeracy sessions, First Steps IT and a Story Sacks course for parents.  These courses are held at Hillside School in Tanhouse.  At Tanhouse Community Centre we are running a First Steps IT course.

A presentation ceremony was recently held at Digmoor Community Centre to celebrate the achievement of learners who had gained OCR qualifications in Adult Literacy.  The picture shows Joyce Hanlon presenting the learners with their certificates.

Working Wonders courses in Skelmersdale are very popular and some comments from learners have included: “The tutors marvellous.  I really enjoy the course.  I’ve learnt a lot.”  “I thought I was too old to learn but I’ve just gained a qualification in Numeracy and I’m a pensioner!”  “I’m able to help my child with her homework now.”  “I feel a lot more confident when writing letters or filling-in forms.”
