Having done some work on the British abolition of the slave trade, we went to see the exhibition called “Trade and Empire, Remembering Slavery.” We were shown round the exhibition by Andrew Vaughan, the Learning and Interpretation Manager (far right). He explained the background to the exhibits and made the whole thing come alive. We were particularly struck by the political cartoons by Hogarth and the interesting textiles.
After lunch, we went to Manchester University Museum in which we all found something of interest. The Egyptian section was fascinating, as were the birds and animals, both dead and alive. The trip would not have been possible without the Working Wonders minibus and driver. Thank you - the great day out was enjoyed by all. |
